An allegory: Every time we go to one of those big discount shoe warehouses, we come upon racks and racks of shoes from Jessica Simpson’s line. And although we always stop to look at them and think, “Hey, these are kind of cute,” we have never actually bought a pair, even at bargain basement prices. In other words, Jessica Simpson’s fashion line is a bit like her career in general: she tries a lot of things and you really want them to work, but something is always just a little bit off (post-Newlyweds, anyway).
Our Take: Another allegory: You know when Simpson said dumb things like that whole Chicken of the Sea bit and it was really charming, but then not very many people bought her album? Maybe she shouldn’t try so hard.
