Smokey Eyes Makeup

Prep the lid.  The key to keeping eyeshadow from melting into your eyelid crease as the day goes on is to kept eyelids oil-free. To do this start with an eyeshadow base (also called “primer”). I prefer to dab at bit of MAC’s ‘paint’ on lids before shadow application. Or try Fresh Freshface Perfecting Eye Primer.

# Apply eyeliner. If you’re going for a typical black, brown or gray smoky eye, apply liner in one of those colors above the upper lash line, drawing line thicker in the middle of eye. If your opting for a jewel-toned eye (violet makes a gorgeous smokey eye), line eyes with a purple, blue or deep green liner.

# Blend in color on bottom lashes For color on the bottom (a key smokey eye look) you’ll want a lighter eyeliner. The key is to “smudge it.” You can also apply a bit of shadow to get full smudge effect.

# Apply light base color Again, the key to a smokey eye is pairing a lighter base with the darker hue. I prefer a nice cream shade for my base. Sweep a light, shimmery shadow over the lids to your browbone. I love Stila’s whipped eye shadows $20. The moist “mousse” consistency seems to stay on forever. My favorite colors are taupe and pearl.

# Blend in darker color, but keep dark color below the crease. Now that you have the base and eyeliner on, it’s time to get the smoky effect. You need a darker eyeshadow shade. Using an eyeshadow brush blend in color starting at your lash line, blending up. Make sure to blend color into the lash line so the eye liner disappears. Stop deep color at crease.

# Doublecheck your work Make sure eyes match and blend color with a Q-tip if need be.

# Finish with several coats of volumizing mascara. Tried and true mascaras (featured in “Elle” magazine) include DiorShow Mascara & L’Oreal Paris Volume Shocking Mascara. Elle’s writer says they are the best volumizers she’s tried.

Smokey Eyes

In terms of eye makeup, is there anything sexier and more sophisticated than the classic Smoky Eye Look?  There sure isn’t!  That’s why almost every page of today’s magazines has a picture of a beautiful model or a celebrity sporting  (what else?) – the smoky eye look!

So, if you feel you are ready to join this fabulous team, and you too want to master the Smoky Eye technic, you came to the right place!  Simply follow the 7 easy steps below and before you know it, you’ll be rocking the gorgeous Smoky Eye Look yourself!

Begin by applying a light shade of concealer to the under eye area, and all over the top lid. Your mineral makeup foundation is a great concealer for this step and prepares your Eyes for the eyeshadow that you are going to apply.

First, line both the top and bottom rims with an eye pencil, paying close attention to going into the lash line itself. If you have small eyes apply liner starting from the middle of the under eye to the outside of the eye. If your eyes are large feel free to line from corner to corner.

Hint: If you are using liquid liner you can place dots on the lash line and then follow the dots to get a perfectly straight line. I knew those connect the dot puzzles I did as a kid would come in handy some day!

With a small eye shadow brush or a q-tip, soften the edges of the eye pencil line.Apply a dark shadow using a sponge-tip applicator, smudge brush or a q-tip directly over the penciled area and smudge. (If you prefer, you can use your finger tip.)The shadow helps to set and soften the look.

How to Apply Eye Makeup

Now that you know what to use, let’s begin learning how to apply eye makeup to create brilliant, beautiful eyes.
Learn which colors are right for you.
Learn which colors are right for you.
Step One: Lids

Many eye shadows come in sets of three complimentary colors with three different values; light medium and dark. You can also choose from frosted or matte finish.

Begin by applying the lightest shade to the upper portion of your eyes, along the brow bone.

Next, use the medium shade to color your lids. Begin at the inner corner and stroke to the outer edge of the eye lid. Then use your fingertip to lightly blend the light and medium shades together where they meet near the crease.

Now it’s time to use the darkest shade to add some contouring and depth. This technique will give you that smokey-eyed look. Beginning at the inner corner, follow the crease to the outer edge of your eyes. You can also add a little more of the darkest color to edge of the lids, just above the lashes. Then, once again, use your fingertip or brush to blend and soften the lines.
Step Two: Liner

Apply a thin line of liner along the base of your lashes on top and bottom. Here are a few tips to create different effects:

* To make eyes appear more wide set, begin your line one quarter of the way out from the inner corners. The beginning should be very thin, and grow slightly wider toward the edge.
* To make extremely wide set eyes appear closer, apply a slight amount of the darkest shade of shadow just near the inner corners of each lid and begin your liner right at the inner edges of your lash line.

Step Three: Mascara

Mascara looks best when it is just applied to the tips of your lashes. Repeated light brush strokes should separate the lashes and build a nice coating that darkens and extends the length of your lashes. Take great care not to leave clumps of mascara on your lashes. The idea is to make them look as natural as possible.

MAKEUP APPLICATION

A BEAUTIFUL FACE STARTS WITH BEAUTIFUL SKIN.  No matter how beautiful your Makeup looks , blemished skin detracts from it attracting unwanted attention to your skin. Using a Skin Care Kit (CLEANSER, TONER , MOISTURIZER and a MASQUE) created for your skin type will help you attain and maintain beautiful healthy glowing skin.

Below are 5 Steps to applying Makeup. For the best possible results you should apply your Makeup after you have have used a CLEANSER, TONER and  MOISTURIZER.  A Masque should be used at least once weekly for deep cleaning.

STEP 1: FOUNDATION:  After CLEANSING, TONING and MOISTURIZING your face apply a small amount of foundation to the tip of your index finger, dot on forehead, nose, cheeks and chin then blend in an upward and outward motion without leaving a line. Be sure to apply foundation over your eyelids and blend without leaving a line. Glance in the mirror to ensure there’s no line. You can use a concealer to cover imperfections such as blemishes and dark spots. You can use our NATU-CLEAR to clear up your skin.

STEP 2:   TRANSLUCENT POWDER: Using a Powder Brush apply Translucent Powder in a downward motion for a smooth finish. Translucent Powder helps eye makeup and blush to go on smoother and blend better. It also keeps your face looking fresh and your Makeup will last longer. Model is wearing our  Medium Translucent Powder . $12.50. Click here to order it.

PLACEMENT OF EYE COLORS

STEP 3 EYE MAKEUP: Starting at your lash line, apply your Base Color (A) first, then apply your crease color in the crease area (B). Apply your Highlight Color in the highlight color area, (C) below the brow bone. Finally, blend the colors with a cotton ball or your fingertip to remove any obvious line. If the colors are too bright tone them down with a little Translucent Powder then apply your Mascara, and dust your entire face downward with Translucent Powder. See our Eye Makeup Link below.

STEP 4 BLUSH: Your Blush should go on the apples of your cheeks to radiate when you smile. It should go no closer to your nose, but directly beneath the iris of your eye; below nostril-level and into your temple hairline. A good Blush Brush that’s tapered for precise placement, is a must.

STEP 5   LIPSTICKS: Define the outline of your lips with a professional lip brush or lip liner pencil that closely matches the color of your lipstick. Then apply your lipstick and blend the liner with a lip brush. Start from the center working outwards as indicated here.

Wedding Make Up

You want to look your best on your special day so make sure you plan your make up carefully, well in advance.

Whether you are doing your make up yourself or hiring someone else to do it, try to remember the following: -

1. Your make up should be an enhancement of what you normally wear. For example, if you usually go for the natural look, stick to natural colours but slightly stronger. You don’t want to try out blue mascara and red lipstick! Remember your fiancé is marrying you, so he should at least recognize you! Saying that you should define your features stronger than what you usually do, so they show up in photographs. You should feel comfortable in the make up you are wearing, this is not the time to try out anything drastic. On your day you don’t want to be worrying about your shade of lippy whilst saying your vows.
wedding-make-up2

2. If you are having your make up done professionally, make sure you have a practice run before your big day. A good idea is to have a dress rehearsal and take photos, so you can then check that it will look good.
3. Like a very dear friend of mine who recently got married, she cried the whole way through. Waterproof mascara is a must!
4. You want your make up to last all day. There are some fabulous long lasting make up items around, which will ensure that you don’t need to “touch up” during the day. Believe me you won’t have time to re-apply your make up.

Make up Tips

1. Starting with concealer and foundation. Be careful about the colour foundation you choose. Whilst you should always go for a match as near as your skin, anything too pale will make you look washed out if you are wearing a white/ivory dress. Try to choose a yellow toned foundation to bring warmth into your face. Alternatively use bronzing powder to give you a bit of colour – if you are wearing a low cut dress remember to sweep it across the chest area so you don’t look “two toned”.
2. Whilst there are some lovely “shine” products available to give a dewy complexion, again be very careful where you use them. In photographs it will be easy to mistake the “glow” for sweat – not nice. If you are applying a highlighter, stick to brow bones, cheekbones and a dab in the middle of your lips. If you are wearing a low cut dress add a little on your décolletage. Beware of any makeup that is too sparkly, this can look strange in the photos. Matte is usually best.
3. Pending on what season you are getting married this will also have to be taken into account when planning your makeup. Avoid anything too shiny on your skin if you are getting married in the summer, stick to a coloured lip-gloss but don’t wear shine all-over. Light formulas are better as you don’t want your makeup melting in the sun. Winter make up can be more dramatic although again it’s best to stick to a stronger look of your usual make up, bear in mind if it is a very cold day, you may want a green concealer. Green will counteract any redness to stop you looking like Rudolph!
4. To make your lipstick last all day. First apply a lip primer to give your lips an even surface and rid of any flaky bits. I always apply foundation to the lips and let it dry – this gives a good base. Then line your lips with your lip pencil (which should be the same shade as your lipstick). Then fill in all your lips with the pencil. Finally on top of that apply your lipstick. Blot with a tissue and reapply your lipstick – repeat this twice. Now your lipstick should stay on all day. If it does start to wear off you will have the lip pencil underneath so your lips won’t look patchy.
5. Although foundation/concealer should be left to areas where you need it, i.e. around the nose then blended into the cheeks (you don’t want to put it everywhere otherwise it will look false), you can also apply to your eyes to give your eye shadow a good base and something to cling on to.
6. Eyebrows - have them professionally shaped before your big day and enhance them with a same colour eyebrow shade. Eyebrows frame your face and it can make a huge difference if you have the professionally shaped – a la Liz Hurley!
7. To make your eyes look bigger and whiter choose dark navy mascara. If you are dark skinned or have brown eyes then black is usually best. Brown mascara can make eyes look tired.
8. To lift your eyes apply a highlighter just below your brow bone. If you have small eyelids, apply a highlighter just in the center of the eyelid and a dark brown shade in the eyelid crease – this will lift your eyes. White/ivory eyeliner in the rim of your eyes also makes them appear brighter, however be careful if you wear contact lenses as your eyes maybe sensitive. To make your eyes look more wide set blend the highlighter in the inner corner of your eyes.
9. For a natural flush apply a light natural pink shade onto the apples of your cheeks – don’t go to harsh, especially if you are drinking which can give you a natural flush look without the blush.

wedding-make-up3
Finally remember on your big day to have the following to hand.

* Cotton buds, to wipe away any smudges under the eyes
* Your lippy, should you need a touch up.
* Some translucent powder to blot away any sweaty patches
* Breath freshener (you will be doing lots of kissing – alcohol breath is not very attractive!)
* Contact lens solution – if you wear them.
* Small phial of your perfume to keep you smelling gorgeous – which you will be!
* And your man of course!!!
